How do students describe engagement? What do students want school to be? What do they not want from school? How is school important to them, and what does this say about them and how we should be with them? What do they say they need, and how does that agree with, or contest, your ideas of education? What is to be explored further with them?
When we listen to students, we hear important things all the time. To document, share and celebrate their candor, commitment, delicacy, hope and thoughtfulness is always to find with them places from which to begin in education.
This video features fourteen students from five mostly-rural school districts from many regions of British Columbia: From the Peace River region in the Northeast, to Northern Vancouver Island and a Gulf Island in the Southwest, the Kootenay region in the Southeast and the region of the confluence of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers in the Southern Interior. The interviews took place from 2012 to 2016.
